Use ContinueVault in Claude
Connect ContinueVault to Claude and pick up any conversation you’ve saved — from Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Perplexity or Le Chat — without pasting it in again.
Before you start
- A ContinueVault account (Free or Pro). Sign up at continuevault.com.
- The ContinueVault browser extension, signed in, with at least one conversation synced. The extension is what saves your conversations; the Claude connector only reads them. See the quickstart.
Connect
- In Claude, open Customize > Connectors (claude.ai/customize/connectors) and choose ContinueVault from the directory. (Custom setup: Add custom connector, server URL
https://continuevault.com/mcp.) - Click Connect. Claude opens the ContinueVault sign-in page (auth.continuevault.com). Sign in with the same email and password you use for the extension and dashboard.
- Approve access. That’s it — there are no keys to paste.
On Team and Enterprise plans an Owner adds the connector for the organization first; each member then connects with their own ContinueVault account.
What you can ask
- “Continue thread <paste a Claude or ChatGPT chat link>” — Claude gets a briefing of where you left off and the most recent messages.
- “Search my ContinueVault history for <topic>” — verbatim passages from any platform, with the date and a link to the original.
- “What did I work on last week?” — a dated list of conversations.
- “Find the PDF I uploaded in the garden chat and open it” — files you exchanged in saved conversations come back as attachments.
- “Which ContinueVault account is this using?” — the connected email and plan.
Tools the connector provides
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
continue_thread | Briefing and recent messages for a saved thread or chat link; records the continuation so the new chat is linked back to its thread |
search_transcripts | Search saved conversations across platforms |
search_thread | Search within one thread |
research_sweep | Several search questions at once, grouped by question |
browse_sessions | List conversations active in a date range |
list_threads, find_thread, update_thread | List your threads, find which thread a chat belongs to, rename or reorganize a thread |
resolve_ref | Turn a chat link into its ContinueVault session and thread ids |
get_messages | Read an exact message range from one saved session |
list_files, find_files | List or find files exchanged in saved conversations |
get_file | Return a saved file to Claude as an attachment (images, PDFs, documents, or a ZIP of several) |
get_file_url | A one-time download link for a saved file, valid for 60 seconds |
inspect_session | Check why a session is missing or not yet synced |
account_status | Which ContinueVault account is connected |
All tools work on your own vault only. Three of them write: continue_thread records that your new chat continues the thread (so it is linked back when it is saved), update_thread changes thread names and membership, and get_file_url creates a short-lived link. Claude asks before running those; you can allow a tool permanently from the prompt.
Privacy
- The connector never uploads anything from your Claude conversation. Only the browser extension saves conversations, and only on the accounts you turn sync on for.
- The connector does not read Claude’s memory, your Claude chat history or your Claude files.
- Tool results contain only your own saved content. Privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
- “Session not found”: the conversation hasn’t synced yet. Open the extension on that tab and click Sync, then ask again.
- Sign-in loop: sign out of continuevault.com in that browser, then reconnect.
- Wrong account connected: ask Claude “which ContinueVault account is this using?”, then remove and re-add the connector to switch.
